A PixelatedPop Project: What A Maneuver!
It was only a matter of time until I concocted a wrestling themed project. It just so happened that I recently picked up on perler bead projects (or melty beads, to the layperson). I could've started out with the traditional perler bead projects: cutesy stuff like 8-bit mario sprites and Space Invader key chains. Those have been done to death and, frankly, I needed a bigger challenge. I was struck with a little inspiration after watching some old school wrestling on Netflix. The end result turned out to be the biggest shadowbox I've produced yet! (Yes, I know I'm obsessed with shadowboxes. I think they look nice.)
I knew almost instantly the image I wanted to capture. The image had to be of one of the most devastating, yet underrated holds in all of professional wrestling history: the DDT.
As Vince McMahon would say, "What a maneuver!!?!?!!"
When my wife first saw this, she said, "Is that you with a mustache?" While my hair does flow beautifully, I will never be able to grow a 'stache the magnitude of Jake Roberts'. As you can see, the Big Bossman is the unfortunate recipient of an almost piledriver-like DDT. This hold surely would've ended Bossman's career in a Droz-like fashion.
"I spy with my little eye..."
If you look there in the background, you can see the Titantron screen showing the DDT from a wider camera angle. This particular piece took me several weeks to complete, but I'm proud of how it turned out. Making pictures from perler beads may seem like a girly activity, but as you can see, some very manly accomplishments can be achieved through these beads.
